Why is WordCamp India happening over 3 weekends? Format Explainer

When we started planning this online version of WordCamp India about 6 months ago, the COVID-19 pandemic was raging in India. We noticed that a lot of other online events were day-long events and that seemed to be a lot of commitment for many people in terms of time and energy.

While participating in an online WordCamp from the comfort of your home might sound like fun, it can also be strange; because often we focus on trying to replicate our in-person experiences into online ones. Hence, we decided to experiment with our event format in order to make it more engaging for an online audience.

Here is the break of the activities and the dates.

February 6 – 7 – Contributor Days

WordCamp India Logo and Design Evolution

The design team for WordCamp India 2021 has been on an interesting journey to come up with the logo and design.

The design team of Ganesh Kerkar, Arvind Baraskar, Vachan Kudmule and myself took inspiration from WordCamp Asia’s blog post on writing down details on how something like this evolves.

Please note: Most of our earlier logos have the text WordCamp India 2020 – these designs were created at an earlier stage of event planning when we were thinking of hosting the event in December 2020. The event has since moved to January-February 2021.

Announcing WordCamp India 2021 – Online Version

This year of 2020, has been a difficult one. The COVID-19 pandemic has left no country untouched. In-person meetups and events are not happening, and various WordPress communities around India have started playing around with the idea of an online event.

We are happy to announce that communities across India are joining hands to organize the first-ever edition of WordCamp India Online from January 30 to February 14.

Yes! You read those dates right. We plan to have our WordCamp over three weekends.
