We are happy to announce that the call for speakers at WordCamp India 2021 Online is open!

Do you possess a unique experience or have expertise in a topic that you are keen to share with the world? Does your idea benefit people who use WordPress in their day-to-day lives or are building web experiences with WordPress! 

Then, we want you to speak at WordCamp India Online 2021, on February 14 and 15!

Who can speak at WordCamp India (Online) 2021?

Anyone and everyone from all parts of the world, irrespective of their age, gender, sexual orientation, location, social class, religious beliefs, or any other criteria, are welcome to speak at WordCamp India (Online) 2021! 

Since this is a regional online WordCamp, we expect that a majority of our speakers will be from India (around 80%). One priority is to have a diverse roster of speakers at our WordCamp – hence, we specifically encourage people belonging to underrepresented communities to speak at our event.

Please note: You need not be an expert to speak at WordCamp India! 

If you are unsure of whether your topic will be selected, we recommend that you go ahead and apply! 🙂 

What are the type of talks that at the event?
  • Regular talks: 30 minutes (with Q&A)
  • Lightning  talks: 10-15 minutes (with Q&A)
  • Micro talks/Flash talks: 5 minutes (no Q&A)
  • Panel discussion

Keep in mind that you can pitch multiple talks and offer to do a talk in different formats.

What language should my talk be in?

Most of our talks will be in English. With that said, we welcome sessions in all Indian languages too!

What topics can I speak about?

Your session should be helpful for people that use and work with WordPress. We are looking for sessions that are helpful or educational and tell a story. Bonus points if you can embrace the virtual format in your talk. Examples of this would include live coding, interactive chats, and discussions.

What all should I include in your speaker pitch?
  • Use your real full name in the application. Your bio should also be in third person.
  • The title of your topic should be clear and self-explanatory. It is best to avoid ambiguous talk titles.
  • Your talk description should be detailed, but succinct. Focus on explaining what people will learn from the talk. Make sure that your description should not be too long or vague. Bonus points, if you can share why you are qualified to present this talk (note: you do not need to be an expert). 
  • Your topic should be related to WordPress or should be helpful for people that use and work with WordPress.

Note: You need not submit your entire talk in your application, just an idea and some details is all we need.

If I’m selected, what will my experience giving the talk, look like? 

We require all selected speakers to send us a recorded videos of their talks, at least two weeks before the event, so as to prevent any last-minute hiccups or internet issues. We will be replaying the recorded video of the talk at the event. After your talk, you can interact with the participants in a live Q&A. 

What are the deadlines?
  • 8 December 2020: Call for speakers opens.
  • 31 December 2020: Call for speakers closes
  • 1 January 2020: Speaker selection process starts
  • 7 January 2021: Speaker selection concludes
  • 8 January 2021: Speakers announced.
  • 25 January 2021: Deadline for speakers to submit their recorded talks.
