The call for Contributor day team facilitators has been closed. Thank you for those who applied.
WordCamp India 2021 will have a two-day long Contributor Day event on the 6th & 7th of February 2021, where participants can give back to the amazing WordPress community by contributing to the project.
Contributor Days are for everyone, regardless of their experience with WordPress. Attendees break up into different teams and each team focuses on contributing to a particular segment of WordPress.
There are many ways of giving back to WordPress, some of them are:
- Translating WordPress to regional languages so more people who don’t speak English can benefit from the software.
- Providing support to users on WordPress.org’s Support Forum.
- Reviewing themes before they get pushed on WordPress.org’s Theme Directory.
- Contributing code to the WordPress core.
- And many, many more!
By being a contributor day team facilitator for a Make WordPress team at WordCamp India, you get to facilitate the efforts of a contribution team (consisting of other contributors) and help in giving back to the WordPress project. By facilitating a contributor day team, you get to learn and showcase your Project management skills. It is also one of the coolest ways to give back to the WordPress project!
Read on to find out more about being a contributor day facilitator at WordCamp India. Don’t forget to send in your application as well, if you wish to!
What does it mean to be a contributor team facilitator?
At the contributor day, you will work with other contributors to give back to WordPress and its community.
- On the first day, we will have an introduction on how & why to contribute to WordPress.
- After the introduction, people can join the team where they want to contribute by joining the respective meeting, and the Slack channel. They will then get a chance to make contributions to the respective team over the two days.
A contributor day team facilitator for a particular team (e.g. the core team or the marketing team) will work with the other participants to assist in their contributions. Your work starts as you liaise with representatives of the respective Make WordPress contributor team before the event to find out where the team needs help. It could be a specific project or a set of pending tasks. Perhaps there are a few documents that need editing? Or, there are some bugs that need urgent fixing? Once you are aware of where the team needs help, you will work with contributors in helping the team with those tasks as much as possible.
On the event day, your job will be to assist contributors in answering their questions, removing any blockers, and helping team members contribute to the respective project.
In short, you will be facilitating the contribution effort of that Make WordPress team at WordCamp India.
Please note: All contributor facilitators should have been active members of the respective Make WordPress team they plan to represent at WordCamp India for the past 6 months at least.
Hi, I can contribute to WordPress via translation from English to Hindi. Let me know how we can work together.
